Assessment Policy

1. Overall Aims

• Assess students on what they are expected to learn in the curriculum.

• Help teachers evaluate students’ performance and progress in accordance with the learning targets.

• Use formative assessments and provide quality feedback to help students recognize their strengths and weaknesses.

• Use diversified modes of assessment to gain a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of students’ learning.

• Help teachers understand students’ learning needs and provide timely support and assistance to address learning difficulties.

• Inform parents about their children’s learning progress and foster home-school collaboration to jointly address students’ learning challenges.

   

2. Assessment Modes

  The school’s assessment modes are divided into two types: formative assessments and  

  summative assessments.

 

a. Formative Assessment

Major Subjects

• The school places great emphasis on formative assessments and adopts diversified assessment modes such as unit assessments on electronic platforms, dictation, speaking and listening assessments for Chinese and English, written unit assessments, practical assessments, thematic worksheets and mini-projects for Mathematics, life skills activities for junior primary levels and STREAM activities for General Studies. These are used to gain a comprehensive understanding of students’ learning progress and outcomes.

 

• This year, Humanities and Science will be implemented in Primary 1, Primary 2, Primary 4 and Primary 5. For Humanities, inquiry worksheets and project learning will be included. For Science, “Little Scientific Discoveries” worksheets, inquiry-based learning activities and STREAM activities will be provided.

 

• There will be no written assessments or examinations for Humanities and Science in Primary 1 and Primary 2 throughout the year. These students will only be required to complete formative assessments.

 

Minor Subjects

For Primary 1 to Primary 6, formative assessments will be implemented in Integrated Learning, Music, Physical Education, Putonghua and Visual Arts. In other words, no examinations will be required for these subjects during the examination week. As Music examination results must be submitted to the Education Bureau for Secondary School Places Allocation, the written examinations for Primary 5 in the second term and for Primary 6 in the first and second terms will be conducted as usual. However, Music examinations will not be held for other levels and will be replaced by formative assessments.

 

b. Summative Assessment

• P.1 Assessment and Examination Arrangements

  In the first term, there will be no formal assessments or examinations. Only formative assessments will be used to assess students’ learning performance. On Parents’ Day, teachers will go through each student’s ePortfolio with their parents.

 

In the second term, there will be no formal assessments. Students will only need to take the final examinations.

 

• P.2 Assessment and Examination Arrangements

  There will be no formal assessments in either term. Students will only need to take one set of examinations in each of the two terms.

 

• P.3–P.6 Assessment and Examination Arrangements

  There will be two sets of assessments and two sets of examinations per year. Students must take all assessments and examinations.
